Happy Allston Christmas! Oh, what's that, you ask?
For those not familiar with Boston traditions, Allston Christmas occurs every Labor Day weekend. This is when the swarm of college students returns to Boston, specifically to Allston, a vibrant neighborhood within the city. As these students move in and out, the streets transform into a treasure trove for trash pickers. Picture this: entire living room sets, end tables, lamps, even the iconic Lazy Boy recliner, all abandoned on the sidewalks. The sheer volume of discarded items is so immense that the city places dumpsters around for people to dispose of their old mattresses, couches, and Ikea tables. Now, there's a bit of risk involved in taking these items—after all, who knows where they've been—but that doesn’t deter many people from giving these pieces a second life. So, if you find yourself in Boston over Labor Day weekend, take a stroll through the streets of Allston. You might just score some unexpected furniture treasures and can cheerfully wish someone a Happy Allston Christmas while you’re at it!
